No. 15 DePauw women take opener over Wisconsin Lutheran
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Claire Keefe scored 20 points in her first collegiate game including 16 in the second half to lead 15th-ranked DePauw to a 64-53 win at Wisconsin Lutheran in the season opener for both schools. DePauw faces Luther today at 2 p.m. CST on the second day of the Paul F. Knueppel Classic.
The Tigers closed the first half on a 4-0 run and scored the first six of the second half to take a 42-30 lead. DePauw’s largest lead of 15 came with 8:50 left in the fourth quarter as Sydney Kopp’s bucket made it 58-43.
Keefe’s 20 were followed by Emily Budde’s 17, all of which came in the first half. Maya Howard added 11 points and seven rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists in the win. Kylie Morris hauled down 12 rebounds.
• Wheaton 80, DePauw 59 (men) -- DePauw fell to Wheaton in their opening game of the Lee Pfund Classic on Friday.
The Thunder turned an 8-8 game midway through the first half to a 28-12 lead as DePauw tried desperately to get back within reach for the remainder of play.
David Vogel and Jack VandeMerkt led the Tigers with 13 points each.
