Under the leadership of Joe Buser, the United Way of Putnam County has recently started its annual campaign -- ThanksGIVING! and hopes for a stellar year by engaging the community to act swiftly to aid the essential human service agencies in Putnam County.

“No matter our occupation or place in our community -- underneath, we’re all the same,” United Way Executive Director Buser said. “Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. The potential for greatness lives within us.

“The United Way of Putnam County goes beyond temporary fixes to create lasting change in our community,” Buser added. “By bringing people and organizations together around innovative solutions, we impact hundreds of lives every year. The UWPC advances the common good by creating opportunities for all. Our focus is on education, income and health -- the building blocks for a good quality of life. ”

United Way of Putnam County fights for the education, financial stability and health of everyone in Putnam County, Buser added.

“Through strategic partnerships and collaborative work, the United Way brings the many voices of Putnam County around a neutral table to find common ground, develop a strategic architecture for change, and make measurable progress, while engaging organizations and individual with the opportunity to give, advocate and volunteer to change lives in Putnam County.”

He quotes author Herman Melville, stating, “We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men; and among those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.”

“You may spot these men every day and think of only our differences,” Buser said.

Declaring that underneath it all, we are a United community, are: Tony Mitchell of Myers’ Market; Greencastle Police Officer Matt Huffman; Greencastle firefighter Darrick Wiatt and Greencastle Presbyterian Church Minister Wes Kendall.

Every donation, whether large or small, makes a measurable difference. Persons can donate today by visiting the website at Unitedwayofputnamcounty.org, or giving Buser a call at 653-5638.
