Jack E. Young

Jack E. Young, 81, Greencastle, and formerly Brazil, passed away on Dec. 4, 2017 at Asbury Towers Nursing Center in Greencastle.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1936 in Indianapolis, to Marvin E. Young and Freda Everett Young.

In 1946, the family moved to Reelsville. He graduated from Reelsville High School in 1954.

Soon thereafter, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served stateside.

Upon discharge from the Army, he worked at the A & P Grocery Store in Brazil, while obtaining a technical degree in electronics from DeVry University. In 1964, he began work with Xerox Corp. and was a technical service representative for the Terre Haute branch until his retirement in October 1999.

On Jan. 6, 1962 he married Annetta L. Young, who preceded him in death on Sept. 1, 2007.

He is survived by two children, Tonya Young Swearingen (and Jeff), Brazil, and Troy Young (and Marcy) and two granddaughters, Hayley Anna Young and Samara Lynn Young, all of Reelsville. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen Decker (and Ken), Greencastle, and Gayle Sabo, Springport, Ind., and brother-in-law, Walt Young of Brazil, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He remarried on Jan. 21, 2009 to Judy B. Young who also survives him.

He was a long-standing member of the Greencastle Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He enjoyed travel and hiking outdoors and was always tinkering or building something with his hands. Snow skiing, ice skating and roller skating were favorite sports until recent years.

The family acknowledges Intrepid Hospice Care, Putnam County Hospital and Asbury Nursing Center for their compassionate and skilled care in recent months.

There will be a graveside service only at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Summit Lawn Cemetery, west of Brazil. All are invited to attend, as there will be no prior visitation or funeral. Mike Gerking, from the Harmony Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses will officiate.
