Rolling down Main Street in weather that won’t allow for a sleigh, Santa Claus instead waves to the crowd at the Cloverdale Christmas Parade in a one-horse open carriage before rounding the corner and greeting the children in his downtown cottage
Santa wasn’t the only one in the holiday spirit Saturday in a parade that featured award-winning floats, emergency vehicles, classic cars, motorcycles and even a candy-throwing Rudolph (left) on the Cloverdale Cub Scouts float and a trombonist from the Cloverdale High Schooll Emerald Command dressed in Ralphie’s maligned pink bunny costume from “A Christmas Story.”

Marking the beginning of the Christmas season in Cloverdale, the parade was also a chance for local organizations and businesses to show their spirit through float contests. The top three entrants in the non-commercial-kids category were first place, Soul Harvest Church; second place, Train Up a Child-Cloverdale United Methodist Church; and third place, Boy Scout Troup 93. The winners of the commercial category were first place, Heart to Home Realty (right); second place, Summer Breeze Tanning; and third place, Endeavor Communications. The winners of the 2017 snowman contest were also announced: first place, Diana Jordan; second place, Train Up a Child; and third place, Gilman Electric.
