Eagle swimmers sweep Edgewood; Cougars busy in triangular meets

ELLETETSVILLE — South Putnam swept a pair of dual meets from the Mustangs last week..

The SP boys’ team won 117-66, and the girls won their meet 93-75.

“Despite various illness and injury, the team really came together to outscore Edgewood,” Eagle coach Anna Kendall said. “The athletes’ perseverance and relentless effort were rewarded with several lifetime, season best, and notable swims.”

“Our relays were some of the most aggressive and exciting swims of the night,” Kendall added.

Swimming lifetime bests in a relay were Masey Chambers, Sammi Jones, Ally Menke and Ryan Neumann.

• Cougars finish second — Southmont placed first in both the boys’ and girls’ events on Tuesday in triangular meets with North Putnam and North Vermillion.

“All of our swimmers dropped times from last week,” North Putnam coach JulieAnn Elmore said.

Cougar seniors Abby Spencer and Tyler Thompson each won the 500 Free, while sophomore Kyle Young won the 100 Fly.

• Cougars compete — North Putnam’s boys and girls each competed in a triangular meet with Seeger and Crawfordsville.

In the boys’ race, Crawfordsville beat North Putnam 131-43 and the Cougars defeated Seeger 85-23.

Crawfordsville beat NP 113-60 in the girls’ race, while Seeger topped the Cougars 87-81.
