Jonathan Jerome South, 58, La Crescenta, Calif., passed away Dec. 1, 2017 at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles due to complications from throat cancer.

He was born in the Putnam County Hospital on Jan. 1, 1959. Jonathan was the youngest son of Donald and Rose South of Brick Chapel.

Jonathan has many accomplishments, among them a BA and MA in music and a BS in nursing.

He was the business manager for a costume fabrication shop in NYC which provided stunning costumes for Broadway productions, and was the co-founder of a cruelty-free line of cosmetics with his husband. After Gail passed away, Jonathan was inspired to become a nurse and after graduation worked in the bone marrow transplant unit at Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC.

Jonathan and Stephen were passionate about animal rights and adopted senior dogs -- especially chihuahuas -- giving them a loving and safe home for the rest of their lives.

He is survived by his husband, Stephen Dimmick, La Crescenta, Calif.; his father Donald (Kathy); his siblings, Donna South Boals, Fishers, Chris (Barbara) South, Brick Chapel, Cindy South (Steve) Allen, Muncie, and brother-in-law David Newby, Lancaster, Calif. His step-siblings include Tony (Tammy) Durbin, Debbie (Jeff) Fidler and Teresa (Tom) Fidler, all of Putnam County. Also surviving are four nephews, five nieces, four great-nephews and two great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose South, and sister, Gail South Newby.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.
