Boys

South Putnam (3-1, 0-1) at Greencastle (2-1, 1-0)

The coaches: Greg Dean is in his fourth year at South Putnam. Bryce Rector is in his second year at Greencastle.

So far: South Putnam defeated Clay City 53-40 and Turkey Run 55-45, lost 47-41 to North Putnam and beat Eminence 77-45. Greencastle beat Crawfordsville 51-44, lost 60-42 to Class 3A No. 11 Danville and beat West Vigo 54-43..

History: South Putnam won 55-44 last year at home. Greencastle holds a 35-26 lead over the past 30 years.

Season recap: South Putnam’s only loss came 33-32 in the county championship game. The Eagles won all three games both before and after that game. Greencastle lost its first three games and has won the last seven, including a 57-41 win at Class 3A No. 5 Danville on Tuesday.

Per-game averages: Offense — SP 51.6, GHS 43.8. Defense — SP 42.8, GHS 38.9.

Opponents’ records: SP 44-34, Greencastle 49-43.

History: Greencastle won 33-32 in November in the county championship game and has won 15 of the last 27 meetings.

WIC impact: Both teams are tied for first place in the West Division.

Key players: Lillie Stein led South Putnam with 26 points on Tuesday in its win over Clay City. Jalyn Duff leads Greencastle with 12.2 points per game.

No. 16 Cloverdale (8-1, 1-0) at Indian Creek (6-5, 1-1)

The coaches: Matthew Langdon is in his seventh year at Cloverdale. Brian Ferris is in his first year at Indian Creek.

Season recap: Cloverdale’s only loss came 55-50 to South Putnam in the county tourney semifinals. The Clovers have won four straight since that game. Indian Creek has lost to Tri-West, Martinsville and Greenwood besides ranked teams in Beech Grove and Owen Valley.

Per-game averages: Offense — Cloverdale 68.4, IC 55.3. Defense — Cloverdale 32.2, IC 54.5.

Opponents’ records: Cloverdale 31-51, IC 52-46.

History: Indian Creek won 66-41 last year at Cloverdale in the only meeting of the last 30 years.

WIC impact: Cloverdale is tied for first in the East Divison at 1-0, while Indian Creek is 1-1.

Key players: Cloverdale is led in scoring by Tori Combs at 16.7, followed by Sammie Shrum at 14.3, Abby Walker at 11.7 and Hailey Thomas at 9.6. Combs leads in rebounding at 13.8, while Shrum averages 6.2.

North Putnam (3-6, 0-1) at Sullivan (2-6, 0-1)The coaches: Jarrod Duff is in his second year at North Putnam. Julie Meeks is in her 15th year at Sullivan.

Season recap: North Putnam has lost five straight games since starting the season 3-1. Sullivan has lost six of its last seven games, but gave Clay City one of its only two defeats to open the season.

Per-game averages: Offense — NP 30.1, Sullivan 41.4. Defense — NP 47.8, Sullivan 50.0.

Opponents’ records: North Putnam 45-40, Sullivan 50-24.

History: Sullivan won 46-12 at Bainbridge last year in the only meeting between the teams in the past 30 years.

WIC impact: Both teams are tied for fourth in the WIC West Division at 0-1.

Key players: Hannah Sims leads a balanced North Putnam scoring attack with 5.1 points per game, while Payton Lyons averages 4.9. Baylee Osburn leads the Cougars in rebounding with 4.4 per game.
