Harriett L. Hood

Harriett L Hood, 91, of Greencastle passed away at her residence on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 with her family by her side.

Harriett was born in Emerson, Neb., on Jan. 12, 1926, the daughter of Lloyd and Myrtle (Heekens) Surber, and was a 1943 graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mrs. Hood worked for many years as a cook at both Asbury Towers and the American Legion, She also worked as a bartender at the VFW for several years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1592, and was a lifetime member at the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 58 and the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 1550.

Survivors include three children, Judy L. Knight of Michigan City, John L. Hood (wife-Karen) of Greencastle and Terri Jackson of Greencastle; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Everett Hood; two children, Tim Hood and Jim L. Hood; brother Harold Surber; and son-in-law Darrell Jackson.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
