City Fire

A woman was badly burned in a Sunday-morning fire at Castlebury Apartments.

Greencastle Fire Department dispatched to the scene at 7 a.m. to a fire at 1202 Castlebury Dr., Apt. D.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 7:05 a.m. Due to the call coming in at shift change, a crew of 10 firefighters on three engines was able to respond.

The fire was under control by 7:19 a.m.

The woman was taken from the scene and airlifted to the hospital due to her injuries.

Crews remained on scene until 9:14 a.m.

County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 12:07 p.m. Maurice Kevin Garrett, 48, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a court order.

Tuesday

• At 11:57 p.m. Frank Donovan Saathoff, 32, Brazil, was housed at the jail on a Clay County warrant and for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 10:09 p.m. Edward Nathaniel Willis, 46, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 5:02 p.m. Michael Joe Burdine, 46, Crawfordsville, was lodged at the jail on a petition to revoke probation.

• At 2:15 a.m. Skyler Dean Langley, 25, Brazil, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 1:27 a.m. Brandon Dewight Martin, 29, Poland, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 1:13 a.m. Daniel Roy Standifer, 20, Poland, was booked in on a local warrant.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 7:25 a.m. Sunday, Giovanny Hiram Agueda Rosa, 20, of Puerto Rico, was arrested by Officer Darrel Bunten for reckless driving on U.S. 231 North.

Rosa was clocked by Officer Bunten at 83 mph in a 40-mph zone coming southbound down Water Works Hill, heading into Greencastle.

Rosa, who was arrested at the Greencastle Mini-Mart on North Jackson Street, was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Meanwhile, a recent two-vehicle property-damage accident was reported on Indianapolis Road near 10th Street, according to City Police officials.

• At 2:01 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, the mishap occurred as a 2015 Ford Escape, driven by C. Aigar, 43, Greencastle, stopped in westbound traffic on Indianapolis Road to turn left into Taco Bell.

Also westbound was a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Brenda Brown, 59, Greencastle. Brown told Sgt. Ed Wilson she did not observe in time that traffic ahead of her had stopped west of the stoplight and her car struck the rear of the Aigar vehicle.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Three recent traffic citations were issued by City Police officers.

• At 12:51 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, Timmy Tomlin, 33, Greencastle, was issued two citations by Officer Zach Rhine.

Stopped at Indianapolis Road and Judson Drive, Tomlin was cited for operating with a false or fictitious license plate and for operating a motor vehicle without ever being licensed.

• At 9:42 a.m. Tuesday, Brianna Witty, 25, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham.

Stopped on State Road 240, Witty was cited for operating with an expired license plate.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, Connie L. McCurrey, 53, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2004 Ford Taurus when she hit a deer.

Deputy Jacob Harrington estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500. The vehicle was towed.

• At 5:48 a.m. on Thursday, Daisy Hernandez, 21, Topeka, Kan., was eastbound on Interstate 70 in a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt.

Hernandez told Deputy Scott Ducker a semi approached the rear of her vehicle and was not slowing down so she swerved right.

She said the semi hit the left rear bumper area of her car but failed to stop, continuing eastbound.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 6:01 a.m. on Wednesday Tonya J. VanDiver, 43, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2016 Nissan Rogue.

VanDiver told Deputy Jacob Harrington that a Ray’s Trash truck and a silver SUV were westbound when the SUV tried to pass in a no passing zone.

The SUV crossed into her lane of travel and she had to swerve off the south side of the road to avoid the collision.

The silver SUV fled the scene.

The Ray’s driver remained on the scene to give his report of what happened. His account matched that of VanDiver.

VanDiver’s vehicle had to be removed from the ditch by a wrecker, but was drivable afterward.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Brenda M. Harlan, 67, Terre Haute, was eastbound on U.S. 40 just east of County Road 725 East in a 2006 Mercury Milan.

Harlan told Lt. Donnie Pettit she may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to swerve into the median and hit a drainage whistle.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 5:47 p.m. on Monday, Michael J. Keys, 54, Bainbridge, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2012 Chevrolet when he hit a deer.

Deputy Riley Houghton estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000. The vehicle was towed.
