City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 3:25 a.m. Sunday, Jeremiah Duncan, 37, Greencastle, was arrested by GPD Officer Brad Hiatt.

Stopped at Washington Street and Hammond Drive, Duncan was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Under portable breathalyzer testing, he registered .232 percent blood alcohol and was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Duncan was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

• At 12:20 p.m. Friday, Billy Barnett, 19, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Kyle Lee at an East Hanna Street residence.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Barnett was arrested on a pair of outstanding Putnam County warrants, both carrying the original charge of theft.

• At 1:18 p.m. Friday, Jeremy West, 41, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Lee on Judson Court.

West, who was booked into the Putnam County Jail, is being held on charges of driving with a suspended license with a prior offense, possession of a lookalike substance and possession of paraphernalia.

At the same time, two passengers in the West vehicle were issued a summons to appear in court to answer drug-related charges.

• Chandler Hyten, 21, Fillmore, received a summons for possession of a synthetic drug.

• Jonathan Eversole, 27, Greencastle, was issued a summons for possession of a synthetic drug.

Two recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle officers.

• At 4:10 p.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported in the parking area at Snap Fitness on Indianapolis Road on the outlots in front of the Walmart Supercenter.

Officer Lee reported Chris Alexander, 39, Reelsville, was backing a 2007 Cadillac Escalade from a parking space, when he backed into the path of a 2015 Toyota Rav 4 as it was traveling northbound through the parking lot.

The collision resulted in an estimated $2,500-$5,000 damage.

• At 5:24 p.m. Friday, for the third time in two weeks an accident occurred involving a vehicle entering or exiting the Taco Bell restaurant at Indianapolis Road and 10th Street.

Matthew Schneider, 37, Greencastle, had stopped his 1997 Jeep Wrangler, waiting to turn left out of Taco Bell to go west on Indianapolis Road when a well-intentioned driver, who had stopped just west of the restaurant driveway, waved him out.

As that occurred, however, an eastbound 2002 Toyota Camry, driven by Rebecca Jacobs, 17, Indianapolis, attempted to go around the stopped vehicle to get into the left turn lane at the stoplight and instead pulled into the path of the exiting Schneider vehicle.

Capt. Chris Jones noted that Jacobs tried to enter the turn lane too early and technically passed the stopped vehicle on a double-yellow line, although no citation was issued.

Total damage in the East Side accident was estimated at $1,000-$2500.
