Apparently seeking to follow in his father's footsteps, Beau Baird of Greencastle has announced his candidacy for Indiana State Representative in District 44.

The Republican will look to succeed his father Jim Baird, a four-term representative who, in October, announced his own 2018 candidacy for Indiana's Fourth Congressional District.

A lifelong resident of the district, Beau Baird emphasized his commitment to the growth and prosperity of the community in announcing his candidacy.

Currently the chairman of the Putnam County GOP, in recent years Baird has given significant time in the political arena by working on several local, state and federal election campaigns.

His educational background includes a BS in financial planning from Purdue. More recently, he completed the Indiana Leadership Form and will soon complete the Agricultural Leadership Program with AgrIInstitute. These programs are designed to improve an individual's leadership skills in an effort to develop better leaders for tomorrow.

In addition to being chief financial officer for a local home health care company, he owns Baird Ranch, an internationally-recognized American Quarter Horse ranch, and serves on the International Board of Directors for the American Quarter Horse Association.

He is currently working on his International Masters in Management EMBA, to be completed soon, in business management from Purdue University's Krannert School of Business in conjunction with an MBA from Tilburg University in The Netherlands.

Baird hopes this international degree will prove beneficial in helping understand the world economy and the impact local, state and federal decisions have on international trade and relations, providing him with a unique skill set of understanding of conservative rural Indiana values coupled with a global mindset that he can utilize in the Statehouse.

Baird has fueled his passion for his community by serving on a variety of boards and committees at the local, state and national level. This includes

an appointment by former governor and current Vice President Mike Pence to the West Central Economic Development board of directors.

District 44 encompasses all of Putnam County as well as portions of Parke, Clay, Owen and Morgan counties.

No other candidates -- Republican or Democrat -- have officially declared their intentions to seek the District 44 seat.
