Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:55 a.m. on Monday, Andrew G. Sutherlin, 21, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 100 North in a 1991 Ford F250. As he approached U.S. 231 he was unable to stop on the ice-covered road and slid into the intersection.

Steven D. Angus, 40, Danville, Ill., was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2006 Freightliner M2 registered to Ryder Truck Rentals.

As Angus passed through the intersection, Sutherlin’s truck struck his in the right side.

The impact damaged the snowplow on Sutherlin’s truck as well as the passenger side of the Ryder truck.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 5:20 a.m. on Monday, Joshua S. Hutchinson, 25, Terre Haute, was eastbound on U.S. 40, approaching County Road 625 West in a 2006 Mazda. Hutchinson told Deputy Biggs he was traveling about 50 mph in the left lane.

Hutchinson said the vehicle began to fishtail on the ice-covered pavement and it left the south side of the road, hitting and earthen embankment and flipping onto its top.

Kaitlynn Norris of Terre Haute, the passenger and vehicle owner, complained of neck pain and was transported from the scene by Operation Life.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 1:08 a.m. on Sunday, Deputy Biggs was eastbound on U.S. 36 approaching County Road 25 West, operating with lights and sirens as he responded to an emergency.

The deputy observed a westbound 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Morgan R. Hubble, 27, Greencastle, pull to the shoulder of the road, yielding to his vehicle.

Biggs then noticed a 2004 Toyota Matrix driven westbound by Mariah L. Taylor, 21, Coatesville, which did not reduce its speed or yield.

Taylor’s vehicle then rear-ended Hubble’s stationary car.

During the investigation, Taylor admitted to Biggs that she was looking at her phone at the time of the collision, as her GPS was not working. The deputy cited her for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Hubble was treated at the scene by Operation Life for facial injuries. Taylor was not injured.

Both vehicles were towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.
