Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage accidents.

• At 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Abigail L. Gregg, 16, Russellville, was eastbound on County Road 1375 North approaching a 90-degree turn in a 2005 Ford Focus.

Gregg lost control on the snow-packed road, sliding off the road and into a fence.

The car went under the fence, which wrapped the vehicle and trapped Gregg inside. A wrecker had to pull the car from under the fence.

Deputy Matt Biggs estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Jeffrey R. Woods, 57, Cloverdale, was northbound on Stardust Way in a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Nicholas A. Shepherd, 31, Gosport, was westbound on Stardust Road in a 2005 Ford Escape.

Woods told Capt. Tom Helmer he applied his brakes approaching the stop sign but due to snow and ice, he slid into the intersection and was struck on the side by Shepherd’s vehicle.

Shepherd said he was traveling about 20 mph at the time of impact.

Shepherd’s vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 6:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Michael R. Baker, 41, Russellville, was northbound on County Road 750 West just past County Road 1375 North when he hit a patch of ice and lost control of his 1997 Ford Ranger.

The vehicle left the east side of the road and hit a utility pole owned by Duke Energy. The impact knocked down power lines and blew a transformer but the pole remained standing.

Deputy Biggs reported that the airbags deployed but Baker was able to drive to his residence.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

• At 1:02 p.m. on Tuesday, Megan J. Gainor, 32, Greencastle, was traveling southwest on a private drive at 2205 Deer Creek Dr. in a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer. Krystal M. Edwards, 23, Coatesville, was approaching from the opposite direction in a 2014 Chrysler 200.

Deputy Brian Helmer reported that the drive was ice-covered. In order for a rear-wheel drive vehicle to make the hill and corner, the driver has to give the vehicle some gas for momentum.

As Gainor attempted to get up the hill, she did not see Edwards on the other side, striking her vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 9:03 a.m. on Tuesday, Melissa K. Stalb, 37, Avon, was northbound on County Road 900 West just south of County Road 650 South in a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country.

Stalb lost control on the snow and ice, leaving the road and rolling over in the ditch east of the road.

Stalb told Deputy Brian Helmer she was not injured.

The van was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
