John Charles Kessinger

John Charles Kessinger, 80, of Bainbridge, went to be with our Lord and Savior Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018.

He was born May 27, 1937 to John C. and Faye Van Hook Kessinger.

He married Margaret (Tippin) Oct. 14, 1956. She survives.

Survivors also include daughters Susie (David) Trinkle of Naples, Fla., and Deborah (Curtis) Rhea of Greeneville, Mo.; sons Bryan (Kim) Kessinger of Crawfordsville, and Kevin (Debra) Kessinger of Waynetown; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son, John C. Kessinger III of Rosedale, and sisters Margaret Teshima of Gallup, N.M., and Anna Belle Oilar of Lafayette.

John was a 1955 graduate of Roachdale High School. He was a past president of the Roachdale Alumni, Bainbridge Improvement Society, as well as past president of BIS.

He was a skilled gardener and was a member of the Master Gardener Association of Putnam County.

He was a gospel singer, singing in many churches over his lifetime. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

John began farming during his senior year in high school and farmed the land of what is now Heritage Lake. He then farmed several years for the James Risk family.

He attended Railroad Communication School in Kansas City, Kan., then worked for the Wabash Railroad as a station agent from Rock Island, Ill., to Altoona, Iowa. He worked for the Tri-County Phone Co. in New Richmond and Alcoa in Lafayette.

John was also a minister and preached at several churches in Indiana, Illinois and Missouri.

John and his wife, Margaret, started Kessco Water LLC in 1983 as a family business. They retired in 2016.

John was a member of a Roachdale Christian Church. He and Margaret were missionaries in Puerto Rico and made several mission trips to Costa Rica with the Woodland Heights Christian Church in Crawfordsville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Roachdale Christian Church, 1 N. Walnut St., Roachdale, with Pastor Berry Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Portland Mills Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Jan. 29 at the church from 4-8 p.m.
