GMS students fare well in recent, ISSMA competition

On Saturday, Jan. 27, Greencastle Middle School vocal and piano students competed in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Solo and Ensemble competition held at Terre Haute North High School. The students spent many hours preparing a solo or ensemble piece and performed before a highly qualified judge.

There are five different groups that a student could enter in from Group V (easier music) to Group I (very difficult). Each solo and ensemble is graded in several different categories including intonation, tone quality, note and rhythm accuracy, interpretation, dynamics, and musicianship. Points are awarded and final ratings given from gold to participation.

The results are as follows:

Group V – Gold Division: Olivia Headley - piano solo; Clay Glessner – piano solo; Andrew Adams – piano solo; Brooke Chrisman – vocal solo; Rain Minartz – vocal solo; Andrea Pearson – vocal solo; Elise Lausee, Kiana Hewitt, Haley Timcheck, Collin Short, and Andrew Wood – vocal ensemble; Madi Plew, Lindy Watson, Olivia Monnett, Reid Lawrence and Dhanali Kantilal – vocal ensemble; Micah Cantonwine, Sophie Riggle, Zane Huber, Joseph Hale, and Logan Warren – vocal ensemble.

Group IV – Gold Division: Hunter Miller – piano solo; Caroline Sullivan – vocal solo; Collin Short – vocal solo; Boyd Ensley – vocal solo; Allie Purdue, Alice Howard, Rebecca Hebb, and Katrina Schwab – vocal ensemble; Lauren Elam, Anna Zellers, Caroline Sullivan, Danielle Spicer, Grace Fox, Michayla Dinn, Rhiannon Lange, Joey Kleffman and DJ Wells – vocal ensemble; Rain Minartz, Kimberlee Kirby, Jessica Mulryan, TJ Holliday and Kaylin Kienzle – vocal ensemble.

Group III – Gold Division: Siddalee Cox – piano solo; Siddalee Cox – vocal solo; Anna Zellers – vocal solo.

Group I – Gold Division: Alice Takimoto – piano solo; Hannah Seaman – vocal solo.

In addition, Alice Takimoto and Hannah Seaman will be competing in the State ISSMA contest later in February by virtue of their gold division rating at the district level.

Alice Takimoto, Andrew Adams, and Siddalee Cox are students of Lori Miller.

Hannah Seaman is a student of Barbara Pare.
