GCSC board to choose new member during pair of meetings next week
The vacancy on the Greencastle School Board is set to be filled before the end of next week.
With public meetings set for Tuesday, Feb. 6 and Thursday, Feb. 8, the board will interview prospective board members on Tuesday before making a decision regarding its newest member on Thursday.
The new board member is set to fill out the rest of the term of Denise Sigworth, who served more than five years on the board as an appointee of the Greencastle City Council.
The term will expire June 30, 2020, at which time the council will choose a board member for another four-year term.
The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and conduct at least three interviews. Board president Mike White said there are currently three candidates with whom the board plans to speak.
He added that an additional slot could be added if any last-minute resumés arrive.
Then on Thursday, with a couple of days to consider the choices, the board members will convene at 4:30 p.m. to choose the new member.
Both meetings will take place at Greencastle Central Office, 1002 Mill Pond Lane.
Although the Greencastle School Board members are chosen by city and township officials, it is the school board’s duty to fill any vacancies left in the middle of a term.
The City Council appointee on the board is Lisa Lazar. White and Bill Tobin were selected by the Greencastle Township Trustee. Dale Pierce, meanwhile, is a Madison Township Trustee appointee.
All Greencastle School Board terms expire on June 30 of their respective years. Lazar’s term runs through this coming June, followed by White in 2019, Tobin and the new appointee in 2020 and Pierce in 2021.
