Cox said he was stopped northbound on Vine Street when a truck stopped on Washington Street to turn left onto Vine and Cox believed the truck driver was giving him room to proceed across the street when the collision occurred.

Tippin said she was unable to avoid the impact that did minor front-end damage to her car and damaged the driver’s-side rear quarterpanel and wheel well area of the Cox vehicle.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

Four recent citations were issued by Greencastle officers.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated six recent property-damage crashes.

• At 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, Aaron M. Vondersaar, 25, Bainbridge, was southbound through a parking lot at 3379 S. CR 150 West, Greencastle, in a 2005 Dodge Ram.

The pickup began to slide on the ice-covered pavement and slid into a utility pole with the driver’s side.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, Hal A. Salisbury, 29, Poland, was eastbound on County Road 700 South approaching County Road 550 East in a 2004 Nissan Quest.

Salisbury told Deputy Matt Biggs that as he crested a hill, he came upon a red Jeep sideways in the road. He applied his brakes and began to slide on the ice-covered road.

The car left the road and came to rest in a ditch without colliding with the other vehicle.

Biggs was told the Jeep was possibly turning around due to another vehicle being pulled out of the ditch by a tractor. Salisbury said the Jeep was sideways in the road about 30 yards below the crest of the hill. Biggs said evidence at the scene did not support this.

Instead, Biggs said tire tracks in the ice on the road showed a vehicle had slid or turned in the road about 40 yards farther east than where Salisbury’s vehicle came to rest.

The Jeep was located at a nearby church with no damage.

A female passenger was taken to Putnam County Hospital for the complaint of arm pain.

Salisbury’s vehicle was pulled from the ditch, then driven from the scene. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 7:04 a.m. on Sunday, Sierra D. Alleyn, 17, Fillmore, was northbound on County Road 325 West in a 2004 Honda Accord.

Alleyn told Deputy Josh Boller she was going about 45 mph when she lost control of the car and left the road, entering a grass field and then striking a tree.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 5:33 p.m. on Saturday, Thomas C. Stearley, 47, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 1995 Ford Mustang when he gradually drove off the side of the road and into the ditch.

The car hit and broke a wooden utility pole and a gas meter, which resulted in a gas leak and the closing of U.S. 231 until gas could be turned off.

The car continued into the yard at 748 E. Country Lane Dr., Greencastle, where it broke through 60 feet of vinyl fence and left ruts in the yard.

The vehicle then traveled back toward the road and came to rest partially blocking the northbound lane.

Stearley was uninjured except for some cuts to his face and was standing next to the car when Deputy Robert Soilleux arrived.

Stearley told a witness at the scene he had drank three beers. However, he passed a field sobriety test and tested at .05 BAC on the portable breath test, within the legal limit.

Soilleux cited Stearley for an open container violation and no proof of insurance.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

• At 8:25 a.m. on Saturday, Maria O. Boston, 68, Cloverdale, was southbound on Stardust Way in a 2017 Buick Enclave.

Boston told Deputy Biggs she slid on ice, leaving the roadway and hitting the residence at 452 Small Fry Ave.

The road curves to the east at this location, and Boston simply continued straight, leaving the road and hitting the house.

Biggs’ investigation revealed there was no ice on the road at the time. Boston told Biggs she worked nights and could possibly have fallen asleep.

Boston’s vehicle hit the front door area of the home. A small crack was visible in the foundation of the residence.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

• At 9:45 p.m. on Friday, Farris N. Eversole, 67, Quincy, was traveling on State Road 42 when his 2011 Buick Regal collided with the same deer twice.

Eversole told Deputy Soilleux he was eastbound on State Road 42 approaching County Road 550 East when two deer ran across the road in front of them and another ran into the car, damaging the driver’s side.

He then turned around and headed back westbound to check on the deer. At this point, he said a light-colored passenger car hit the deer that was lying in the eastbound lane, causing it to land on the north edge of the roadway, where Eversole hit the animal again, damaging the front bumper.

Eversole said the light-colored car did not slow down or stop, continuing eastbound at high speed.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
