Banner Graphic: How important have sports been in your life?

Tyce Jackson: “It’s probably been the most important thing in my life. It’s brought me and my closest friends together, and has brought my whole family together. When we go do something, it usually revolves around sports.”

BG: What do you think you have learned from sports?

TJ: “To never give up. My first couple of years of high school didn’t go too well football-wise, but we all stuck with it and we finished up having a great season this year. You just need to keep pushing, and eventually you’ll see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

BG: What was it like playing three sports in terms of school work and being able to prepare yourself for each one?

TJ: “When you go to a small school, you’re almost obligated to play more than one sport so the teams have enough people. Especially with as many coaching changes as we had in football, it was hard to concentrate on just that one sport. I’m looking forward to college where I will be able to focus on one position instead of playing a bunch of different positions.”

BG: What are your plans for after high school?

TJ: “I have signed to play football at DePauw. I am not sure what I’m going to major in, but it will be something like economics or something else business-related.”

BG: What other things do you do outside of school?

TJ: “I like to hang out with my friends and play video games. I’m not really an outdoorsy guy. My favorite TV show is ‘The Office’. I don’t have a favorite kind of movie, but I do like going to the movies. I like listening to rap music.”

BG: What is something that you have never done before that you would like to do someday?

TJ: “Go see a Steelers’ game in Pittsburgh. I’m a huge Steelers’ fan. My first youth football team as a little kid was the Steelers, so I became a fan of the team then.”

BG: What are your favorite and least favorite foods?

TJ: “My favorite is hot wings; I like spicy food. My least favorite food is broccoli.”

BG: Do you have any pets?

TJ: “I have two Australian Shepherd dogs, Ziggy and his little brother is a puppy named Griffey.”

BG: If you were to describe your personality in one word, what would it be?

TJ: “Confident. I always feel like I have an answer for anything, and I like knowing the exact solution to a problem.”

BG: What have been your favorite classes at Cloverdale?

TJ: “I like English and economics. I don’t like trigonometry.”

BG: Summarize your overall Cloverdale experience.

TJ: “It started off pretty rough, but it ended well. Overall it has been a good experience. I wish there had been more highs in the football area, but I think it helped me get stronger as a person on and off the field. Hopefully we laid out the foundation for the upcoming players like my little [fifth-grade] brother.”
