Friday, February 16, 2018

William "Joe" Johnson, 56, of Martinsville and formerly of Greencastle, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, while at work in Mooresville.

He was born on July 18, 1961, in Greencastle, to Jay Dee Johnson and Linda Carol (Pearson) Stevens.

Joe was currently a receiving supervisor at TOA in Mooresville.

A simple man, he was most comfortable in a small circle and above all, he valued his grandchildren, family and man's best friend, his black lab, Eureka. The proud father of two sons, he was a loving Pappy to all five grandkids, especially his adopted granddaughter, Summer.

Known to have a Mountain Dew in hand, Joe listened to classic rock. His hobbies included collecting lighthouses and various other things such as the grandkids' artwork and trinkets. He liked muscle cars and found joy in owning a '66 Ford Fairlane. Never a burden to others, Joe was a loyal friend.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jay Dee "Chip" Johnson Jr.

Survivors include his mother, Linda Stevens of Greencastle; sons William Joseph "Bill" Johnson III (companion Kim) of Greencastle and Brett L. Johnson of Terre Haute; siblings, Deborah Steirwalt of Ft. Meyers, Jenny Vermillion (husband Jeff) of Greencastle, Mike Johnson of Greencastle and half-brother, William David Johnson (wife Angela) of Virginia; and grandchildren, Summer, Cayden, Elijah, Lucas and Austin.

Friends and family are invited to gather from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 with a Celebration of Life Service held at 3 p.m., at Light Memorial and Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Cremation will follow services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the benefit of Summer with envelopes available at the funeral home.
