South’s Haywood finishes 17th in state diving finals

INDIANAPOLIS — South Putnam freshman Lee Haywood finished 17th in the one-meter diving competition at Saturday’s IHSAA state finals.

Haywood placed 18th among the 32 entrants in the preliminary round, with the top 20 moving on to the finals. His score was 179.80 in the first round.

Haywood then recorded a score of 286.00 to finish 17th, and was the only freshman to make the top 20.

Other Western Indiana Conference competitors were Cascade’s Brendan Trent (seventh) and Edgewood’s Jacob Schunk (14th).

Also competing but not making the finals was Edgewood’s Wyatt Blake, who finished 23rd.

Senior Aiden Werner of Indianapolis Pike was the overall state champion with a score of 389.90 points.
