Cloverdale hires two deputy marshals, boosting ranks to three

CLOVERDALE -- Safety Board Adviser Phil Parker announced during the Cloverdale Town Council’s recent meeting that the Cloverdale Police Department (CPD) has hired two more deputy marshals in addition to Levi App, who started work in early February.

The new officers will begin work after passing physical and psychological evaluations. They will be introduced to the community at the council’s next regular meeting, set for Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. in the Cloverdale Town Hall.

In answer to a question from council member Gary Bennington, one officer is from Avon, while the other is from Stilesville.

In other news, the CPD has filed 11 case reports since January. The majority are burglaries and DUI/DWS/HTV with four cases each, followed by two cases of breach of the peace and one non-forcible sex offense case.

The CPD has seized a half gram of methamphetamine as well as 4.5 grams of marijuana. The CPD has also served four warrants and made 14 arrests; eight misdemeanor arrests, five felony and one drug-related.

Reserve Sgt. Billy Wallace continues to prove himself a generous asset to the community, Town Marshal Steve Hibler said, responding to 178 calls for service, 111 police services and seven agency assists with Hibler.

In other public safety news, Fire Chief Kerry Shepherd reported the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department (CTVFB) performed 623 runs last year, and so far has performed 44 this year; three in Greencastle, six in Taylor Township, seven in Warren Township, eight in Jefferson Township, seven in Cloverdale Township and 20 in Cloverdale.
