Russellville opens bids for road repair project

RUSSELLVILLE -- The Russellville Town Council opened two bids from contractors interested in the town’s Road Improvement Project.

The cheapest bid was from Wabash Valley Asphalt, of Terre Haute, at $295,807.51, followed by one from Grady Brothers, of Indianapolis, at $375,521.80.

The bids will be sent to HWC Engineering and Town Attorney Stew Weliever for review before being approved in a special meeting set for Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Russellville Town Hall, 211 S. Harrison St.

The project will be funded through a $225,000 Community Crossings Grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

The roads included in the project are mostly on the west side of town: Railroad Street (from McKinley to Fordyce streets, Harrison to McKinley streets); SK Street (Fordyce to Railroad streets); Fordyce Street (First and Second, Second and Third, McKinley); Second Street (Harrison to McKinley, McKinley to Fordyce); Third Street (McKinley to Harrison, Fordyce to McKinley); Fourth Street (McKinley to Harrison); St. James Street (Railroad to Second) and Warren Street (Railroad to First).

In other news:

-- Claims: The council approved claims at a total of $13,767.38.

-- Salt and Sand Spreader: The council approved Street Superintendent Pat Clahan to return to its next regular meeting with quotes for the purchase of a new salt and sand spreader. The council said that if it doesn’t have the funds to purchase this year, it can at least put it in the budget for next year.

-- Surplus Items: The council approved Resolution 2018-1 to declare a 2004 Ford Explorer, paper shredder and HP printer surplus and authorize Clerk-Treasurer Martha Mandleco to act as selling agent. The Explorer will be advertised “as-is” by Mr. Bid Services “as soon as possible.” Town Marshal Matt Biggs said it needs brakes, rotors, some work on the exhaust and the transmission “slips a bit.”

The Russellville Town Council’s next regular meeting is set for March 20 at 7 p.m. in the Russellville Town Hall, 211 S. Harrison St.
