Sheriff’s Department

A Fillmore man was jailed early Saturday morning on alcohol-related charges following a single-vehicle accident in Greencastle Township.

At 12:41 a.m., 21-year-old Trevor A. Kennedy was northbound on Round Barn Road, approaching Albin Pond Road in a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux reported that marks at the scene indicate that Kennedy failed to slow for the four-way-stop intersection. However, road markings indicated that Kennedy slammed on his brakes about five feet into the intersection, at which point the car veered out of the intersection, running over multiple signs, fence posts and a section of fencing before coming to rest about 75 feet off the road in a cow pasture.

When Soilleux arrived, he said Kennedy was leaning against a vehicle, smelling of alcohol, swaying from side to side and slurring his words.

Kennedy told the deputy he had been on his way home to the Heritage Lake area from drinking in Greencastle, having consumed three Long Island iced teas and four or five beers. Asked for his license and registration, Kennedy said he had locked himself out of the car with it still running.

He was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 3:22 a.m. for driving a vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

Soilleux was assisted at the scene by Greencastle Police Department Capt. Charles Inman and Deputy Tanner Brown.

Sheriff’s deputies investigated three other recent crashes.

• At 5:55 a.m. on Monday, Kayla D. Withrow, 28, Carbon, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2015 Chrysler 200 when she hit a deer.

Lt. Donnie Pettit estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 5 p.m. on Sunday, Ashlee J. Hasler, 25, Aurora, was northbound on U.S. 231 at the U.S. 40 intersection in a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Hasler told Deputy Brown a black car turned left in front of her and she pressed her brakes.

This caused her car to veer left and rear-end a 2008 Honda CRV driven by Linda L. Woolvin, 65, Poland.

Woolvin told Brown she was in the left turn lane, waiting for traffic to clear when she was struck in the rear.

A passenger in Woolvin’s vehicle agreed with Hasler that a black car had turned left in front of them before they were rear-ended.

Hasler’s vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 5:03 p.m. on Friday, Lisa M. Buchanan, 54, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 325 North on a 1987 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle when the back end began to slide out from under her to the left.

The bike became sideways in the road and then Buchanan said she remembered being thrown off the bike and landing on the left side of her head and neck.

Two witnesses at the scene told Deputy Soilleux that Buchanan was test driving the motorcycle and took the turn too wide and was unable to regain control.

Buchanan was waring a helmet, riding jacket and gloves, but complained of severe head, neck and back pain. Operation Life took her to Hendricks Regional Health for treatment.

She was cited for driving without financial responsibility and driving a motorcycle without an endorsement.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
