Joseph “Jay” Fogle II is a Republican candidate for the 3rd District seat on the Putnam County Council.

A Putnam County native, he has lived north of Greencastle with his wife Tina and their two children, Caitlin and Samuel, since 2002. Prior to that he graduated from Greencastle High School and then served a 20-year career in the United States Air Force.

Since retirement from the Air Force, Fogle has worked professionally in the pharmaceutical and health care fields. He earned a bachelor’s degree in information systems management and a master’s degree in business.

Fogle has previously served twice on the County Council, serving a four-year elected term and later finishing out the last two years of a vacated seat after being appointed by caucus.

“In my current job I recently was a member of a project team for a very large five-year construction project that is now complete. I am now responsible for the IT systems and system security for a large laboratory facility,” Fogle said.

“I believe that my diverse military, professional and previous council experiences will serve the county well as we decide on important initiatives such as adding space for county government in the form of a County Government Center that has long been discussed.

“I also see a need for us to develop a coherent path forward and establish governance for how we purchase and use technology services. We currently have several different providers and also need updated policies on how technology resources are used. I envision this would happen through a County Technology Committee that would have voting membership representation from county departments, the council and the commissioners. I am fully capable of leading those planning efforts and consulting with the commissioners to oversee execution.”

Fogle said he and his family have been blessed to experience living and working in other states and countries while in the Air Force and during my civilian professional career.

“Although those were exciting opportunities, the longer we were away the more we came to realize that West Central Indiana, and specifically Putnam County, is a very special place.”

The Republican candidate looked to his favorite political figure for some final words.

“I cannot complete this chance to communicate with you without quoting my favorite politician of all time,” Fogle said. “My favorite politician didn’t have one of the famous last names like Jefferson, Lincoln, Kennedy or Reagan. Her last name was the same as mine, Fogle, her first name was Nancy, and she was my mom. She would often remind me that ‘It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.’ Apparently, I needed that reminder from time to time. I can’t think of any better philosophy on how we should be treating each other and promise to carry that attitude throughout my campaign, win or lose.

“In closing, I feel I am highly qualified to help make Putnam County a better place. I value that opportunity and ask for your vote so I can fulfill it.”
