Fillmore Walk-a-thon

Thursday, April 26, 2018
As teacher Wendy Danner and school secretary Penny Long lead them north along Main Street, Moriah Kortz, Summer Benassi, Kenneth Crowe, Wyatt McKinney, Chaz Hall and the rest of the fourth- and fifth-graders at Fillmore Elementary School embark on the school’s walk-a-thon Thursday morning. The Fillmore PTO sponsors the annual event as a way to get the students out and exercising on a nice spring day, while also raising money for the organization. Students collect pledges and all of the money stays with the PTO for activities for the students and school throughout the year. Students are also rewarded for their participation with a raffle ticket for every $5 they raise. More than 25 raffle baskets were given away at day’s end.

The event is also made possible with traffic control from the Fillmore Police Department and the Fillmore Fire Department, which handed out water as well as providing encouragement, such as firefighter Todd Zeiner giving a high five to fourth-grader Bill Martin.
