CLOVERDALE -- An equipment violation on a coast-to-coast semi traveling along Interstate 70 in Putnam County Monday led to bigger problems and a felony arrest for a California man, Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported.

About 12:45 p.m. Monday, an ISP trooper from the Drug Enforcement Section stopped an eastbound Freightliner tractor pulling a box trailer for an equipment violation at the 41-mile marker near the Cloverdale exit.

During the traffic stop, information developed that led to a search of the tractor, State Police said. And that subsequent search yielded 27 white plastic cards, each containing stolen credit card information.

As a result, the driver, 32-year-old Vage Gabriyelyan of Glendale, Calif., was arrested and incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on two Level 6 felony charges of counterfeiting and fraud. A Level 6 felony charge carries a sentencing range of six months to 2-1/2 years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine.

The tractor-trailer was transporting medical supplies from California to New Jersey, police said.
