Brazil Concert Band about to embark on 160th season

The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will open its 160th year of concerts on May 15 and May 22 in the new Northview High School band room at 7 p.m.

The BCB rehearsals move to the Forest Park bandshell May 29 through the end of August.

Woodwind, brass and percussion players from high school students to senior citizens are invited to join the band.

The BCB performs every Sunday during June, July and August at 8 p.m. at the band’s home in Forest Park.

The concerts of July 1 and Aug. 26 will be at 7:30 p.m.

The BCB has performed throughout the United States, including Washington, D.C., New York City, Memphis, the Wisconsin Dells, New Orleans and Disney World.

The Brazil Band received the Sudler Silver Scroll for Historic Concert Bands from the John Philip Sousa Foundation and has earned both state and national recognition for its excellence and performance of historic band literature.

The first concert of 2018 is set for June 3 at 8 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the band performs in the Forest Park pavilion.
