Putnam S&WC District makes Conservation Mini-Grants available

Wednesday, May 9, 2018

The mission of the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District is to promote the conservation of Putnam County soil, water and natural resources.

The district achieves this mission by promoting conservation practices, educating individuals about practices and working hand in hand with the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in implementing conservation practices.

To further its mission, the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District offers county residents the opportunity to apply for a Conservation Mini-Grant that pertains to soil, water, and/or natural resource concerns on their property located inside Putnam County.

The Conservation Mini-Grant will cover 80 percent of the project cost, with a maximum total of $2,000.

The possible projects that fall under the Conservation Mini-Grant are endless. However, a few ideas include utilizing a rain barrel, establishing a rain garden, creating a pollinator habitat, taking steps to control erosion, starting a high tunnel vegetable establishment and implementing timber stand improvements.

Individuals interested in filling out a Conservation Mini-Grant application should visit the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District website at http://www.putnamswcd.org/mini-grant-program/.

Completed applications should be returned to the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District, 1007 Mill Pond Land, Suite C, Greencastle, IN 46135. Individuals with questions can contact the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation staff at 653-5716, ext 3.
