Getting things off to a good start Saturday on opening day at the Greencastle Farmers Market, Jackie Muse (above), Greencastle, buys a black raspberry plant from vendor Jerry Williams. Muse also purchased soap and a tomato plant at other booths.

Meanwhile, Renee Smith (right), of Greencastle, takes advantage of the tree giveaway at the market. Volunteer John Garner adds a hazelnut sapling to Smith’s bag while her daughter, Cora, 3, dances on the courthouse lawn. Gardner will return this coming Saturday to pass out leftover free trees to market-goers. The market is open 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday until fall.
