Simon Foss to play senior piano recital Friday evening
The public is welcome to attend a senior piano recital by Simon Foss, graduating senior at Greencastle High School, featuring works by Bach, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Debussy, in Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church of Greencastle at 5 p.m. Friday, May 18.
Foss has been instructed for the past decade by Professor Maureen Carkeek of DePauw University. He has won gold medals in piano at the Indiana State School Music Contest the last four years, and was named president and Outstanding Musician for GHS Band in 2018.
Foss captained the GHS math bowl team to its first state championship in 20 years, and was also a member of this year's state champion English team, as well as All-conference captain of the GHS boys' soccer team during its 2017 conference and sectional-winning season.
He is also a black belt in kenpo goju-ryu karate at Steve St. Pierre's All-American Karate Academy in Greencastle.
He is a National Merit Finalist and will be attending the University of Chicago this fall to study mathematics, linguistics and philosophy.
