BLOOMINGTON — A large contingent of athletes will represent Putnam County today in the IHSAA Girls’ Track Regional at Bloomington North.

Leading the pack, as expected, is Greencastle junior Emma Wilson — the defending state champion in the 1,600 and 3,200. Wilson set regional records in both events last year.

She is seeded first in the 1,600 for this year’s regional and third in the 3,200. Wilson’s time in the 1,600 is 27 seconds faster than the runnerup, while her 3,200 time is 4.62 seconds behind the top seed — although she has run several seconds faster this season when seriously challenged.

The top three finishers in each event, plus any other athletes meeting the state finals qualifying standard, will advance to the state finals at Bloomington next month.
