Kids Fishing Derby at Jaycee Park Saturday

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

Jaycee Park on Greencastle's East Side will be the scene of the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department's annual Kids Fishing Derby Saturday, June 2.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. with the fishing contest beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The event is free and open to youngsters, although neither the Parks Department program guide nor its website specifies an age range.

The Fishing Derby will include awards for Biggest Fish, Smallest Fish, Most Fish Caught and more with awards at 11 a.m.

Jaycee Park is also listed as one of the sites for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Free Fishing Weekend. On these special days, Indiana residents can fish public waters without needing a fishing license or a trout stamp.

DNR properties and other sites across the state will be hosting youth and family fishing events. Besides Jaycee Park's free fishing on Saturday, Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon State Recreation Area) is also taking part Saturday.
