The Franklin College business department’s senior class continued a long-standing tradition of excellence on the Major Field Test (MFT). This year’s cumulative class score ranked Franklin College in the top three percent among the more than 400 U.S. colleges and universities that use the test.

Among the 25 Franklin seniors who completed the MFT were a pair of 2014 North Putnam High School graduates: GRANT BRYAN, son of Tony and Leesa Bryan of Greencastle, and ROBERT “JAKE” SMITH, son of Steven and Melissa of Roachdale.

As a requirement for their degree, senior business majors at Franklin have taken the MFT since 1992. The exam tests a student’s ability to retain and apply the knowledge gained in their business, economics and accounting classes. The department has a long streak of performances that place it in the top 10 percent in the nation each year.


ABIGAIL SCHUBERT of Coatesville has achieved a place on the University of Evansville dean’s list for academic achievements during the spring semester 2018.

Schubert is majoring in chemistry - basic.

To make the Dean’s List, a student at UE must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Located in Evansville, the University of Evansville is a private, liberal arts-based university with programs in the arts and sciences and in the professions.


KATHERINE ELIZABETH SCHUBERT of Coatesville was recently named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or better and have 12 hours calculated.

SIUE is a nationally recognized university that educates and develops professional and community leaders through its excellent faculty and programs.


Ten Putnam County students were among the 473 who became the 179th graduating class of DePauw University. The undergraduates were awarded their degrees during the program which took place in Holton Memorial Quadrangle on May 20.

The local students who graduated included JERICA BEAN of Greencastle, TYLER BRAMMER of Greencastle, LUKE BROTHERTON of Greencastle, ASHLYN COX of Greencastle, LUCAS ECKRICH of Greencastle, MALLORY GLAZE of Fillmore, TAULBEE JACKSON of Cloverdale, JOHN LATTA of Greencastle, KATHERINE McKEAN of Poland and CALVIN TIMM of Reelsville.

The day’s events included a speech by civil rights legend, attorney and presidential adviser Vernon E. Jordan Jr., DePauw Class of ‘57.


Fourteen local students were named to the 2018 spring semester dean’s list at DePauw University: ASHLYN COX of Greencastle, LUCAS ECKRICH of Greencastle, DAVID FLANNELLY of Coatesville, MALLORY GLAZE of Fillmore, TAULBEE JACKSON of Cloverdale, JOHN LATTA of Greencastle, KATHERINE McKEAN of Poland, NATHANIEL SPANGLE of Greencastle, MORGAN STEARLEY of Centerpoint, WHITNEY WEINSCHENK of Greencastle, BRITTANY WELKER of Greencastle, BRAYDE WHITE of Greencastle, ZACHARY WILKERSON of Greencastle and SYED MUHAMMAD RAZA ZAIDI of Greencastle.

The dean’s list recognizes students who achieve a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.


KIEFFER VITTETOW of Belle Union was named to the dean’s list and annual honor roll at the University of Indianapolis.

Students named to the dean’s list have completed at least 12 hours during the semester and earned a grade point average of 3.7 or higher. Annual honor roll students have completed at least 12 semester hours and earned a GPA of 3.4 or beter.

A 2017 graduate of South Putnam High School, Kieffer is the son of Mark and Mara Vittetow.


CECILIA POHLAR of Greencastle has been named to the Champlain College dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester.

Pohlar is majoring in computer and digital forensics.

Students on the dean’s list have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the semester.

Founded in 1878, Champlain College is a small, not-for-profit, private college in Burlington, Vt., with additional campuses in Montreal, Quebec and Dublin, Ireland.
