County hoopsters to play in Indiana Class Basketball all-star games

Four Putnam County basketball standouts will be competing in the Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic series this weekend at Anderson University.

Recent Greencastle graduate Colin York will suit up for Team Red in the Senior Boys game at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Tori Combs

Cloverdale senior Tori Combs will play for Team Red 2 at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Junior Girls game, while two county senior boys will compete in different games on Saturday night.

South Putnam’s Allen Plunkett will play for Team White in the first Junior Boys game at 6:30 p.m., while Cloverdale’s Jake Wilkes will play for Team White in the second game at 8 p.m.

The eight-game series is in its 10th year, and is coordinated by Steve Stremming of Excel High School Sports and former Indiana University All-American and NBA No. 1 overall draft choice Kent Benson.

“We look for talent all over the state of Indiana and in that, we believe we have a tremendous amount of talent in our 10th-year event,” Stremming said. “Indiana each year produces top D2, D3 and NAIA talent each year, and we have gathered great young men and women of great character.”

Other Western Indiana Conference players or opponents of Putnam County teams who will be competing are Cascade’s Dalton DuBois, Northeastern’s Freeman Brou and Terre Haute South’s Craig Porter in the Senior Boys game, Danville’s Connor Jones in the Junior Boys game, Cascade’s Emelia Bryant and Olivia Bryant in the Senior Girls game, Ella Collier of Danville and Tenleigh Phelps of Triton Central in the Future Girls (grades 9-10) and Dazia Drake of Owen Valley, Jenny Lundy of Northview and Madison Jones of Western Boone in the Junior Girls game.
