Putnam Pride picnic set for June 23 at park

Tuesday, June 19, 2018

The annual Putnam Pride Initiative (PPI) Community Picnic is scheduled for Saturday, June 23 a Robe-Ann Park in Greencastle.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. at shelterhouse No. 5 (between the tennis courts and playground) on the north side of the park.

PPI is a group of LGBTQ+ individuals and allies who welcome anyone who is supportive and affirming of LGBTQ+ issues and wanting to work toward awareness and acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals in the Putnam County community.

The group meets monthly to offer a safe environment for LGBTQ+ community members and their allies to have fun and to discuss current issues at the national, state and local levels.

Saturday’s picnic is designed as a way to increase visibility for the group and to celebrate diversity.

The picnic is just one way PPI has been visible in the community. Members do volunteer work in several different places and also table at local events.

Members of PPI strive to make the Putnam County community a better place to live by promoting a positive environment for all of its members.
