July 5 closing expected for project on State Road 240

Monday, June 25, 2018

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced that a small structure replacement project will close State Road 240 in eastern Putnam County on or after Thursday, July 5.

The area in question is just over 1.5 miles west of State Road 75 (or approximately nine miles east of Greencastle).

The roadway is scheduled to reopen Aug. 19.

The project was awarded to Halverson Construction Inc., Terre Haute, for $157,067.

INDOT suggests a detour utilizing U.S. 40 and U.S. 231, and reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone.

  • So why can't they schedule this so 240 and 231 aren't under construction at the same time? When is 231 supposed to be finished?

  • A month and a half to replace a culvert? Last time it was the whole summer. I guess that is an improvement. They replaced a 3' one on my road in a day. Couldn't they have done this before repaving the road last year?

  • Seems like 240 is closed every summer now. INDOT allows way too much time for these small projects, and the contractors take advantage of it.
