Brazil Band to play ‘old favorites’ Sunday

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, directed by Matthew S. Huber, will present “Old Favorites” on Sunday, July 8.

The free concert will begin at 8 p.m. at Forest Park rain or shine.

From the movies come “Tara’s Theme” from “Gone With The Wind” by Max Steiner, Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer” from “The Sting” and from “The Sandpiper,” the song “The Shadow of Your Smile” by Johnny Mandel.

Broadway classics which became movies are the overtures from “Fiddler on the Roof” by Jerry Bock and “Oliver!” by Lionel Bart.

“Standard Pop Favorites” is a medley of “Heartaches” from 1931, “The Old Piano Roll Blues” from 1946 and “Sugar Blues” from 1919 all in a setting by Frank Cofield.

For the World War I Centennial, the BCB salutes “The Gallant Seventh” by John Philip Sousa and “Legion of Honor” by Indiana March King Fred Jewell.

Favorite Irish tunes, including “Shepherd’s Lamb Reel” and “Cockels and Mussels,” are heard in “An Irish Rhapsody” by Clare Grundman.

Two favorites by Karl L. King, “The Princess of India” (1912) and “The Walking Frog” (1919), also are on the bill.
