DePauw University’s volleyball program is hoting its 24th annual DePauw Volleyball Day Camp on Thursday and Friday.

These volleyball clinics are designed to meet the needs of youth in Putnam County and surrounding areas by offering strong fundamental instruction, flexible schedule and a reasonable price, coach Deb Zellers said.

Campers may attend in the morning or afternoon, or stay the full day. Many campers choose to attend both sessions on both days.

The schedule:

Thursday

Session 1: 9 a.m.-noon

Session 2: 1-4 p.m.

Friday

Session 3: 9 a.m.-noon

Session 4: 1-4 p.m.

Sessions 1 and 3 will focus primarily on passing, serve receive and serving, although drills will incorporate other skills as well.

Sessions 2 and 4 will focus primarily on setting, hitting and blocking, although drills will incorporate other skills as well.

Age-groups will be divided such as pre-junior high, junior high, and high school.

The last hour of all sessions will include team play and/or scrimmaging.

Young players will utilize modified equipment such as lower nets and lighter balls.

To register, call coach Zellers at (765) 720-3545 to register for the camp. Callers are asked to clearly state the athlete’s name, age, telephone number and what sessions you would like to attend.

You will be contacted by a member of the DePauw staff to confirm your registration. Please register at least two days prior to the camp. On-site registration will be available if space permits.

A parent-signed medical release form is required. It can be emailed to you or you can sign it when you arrive on the day of camp. To get the release in advance, contact Zellers at dzellers@depauw.edu.

The cost of the camp is $20 per session, or $35 for the full day. You may pay by cash or check at the door at the beginning of the clinic. For campers who would like to attend a full day, lunch supervised by team staff is available from 12-1 p.m. at the DePauw University Hoover Hall. Campers should bring a lunch or $8.50 to purchase lunch. DePauw Volleyball T-shirts may also be purchased for $10.00.

Campers should wear T-shirt, shorts, gym shoes, knee pads (not necessary for youngest age group), and a water bottle. They should also bring a bag to store lunch or lunch money.
