B and E for GCBs? Man accused of stealing cash, not burgers, from Marvin's
For many Greencastle residents and especially current and former DePauw University students, a late-night run to Marvin's for a couple of garlic cheeseburgers isn't such a crazy idea.
However, the motive appears to be cash, not GCBs, in a recent break-in at the Greencastle burger joint.
A man allegedly broke into Marvin's at approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday, about three hours after the restaurant closes on a weeknight.
On Thursday evening, Greencastle Police served a search warrant that led to the arrest of Douglas Flynn, 50, of Greencastle.
Prior to the arrest, Officer Darrel Bunten told the Banner Graphic that the perpetrator had forced entry with a screwdriver or something of that nature. The suspect then allegedly made off with about $500 from the cash register as well as an additional undetermined amount from the tip jar.
"They took the entire tip jar," Bunten said of the then-unidentified suspect.
Working from a surveillance video at the 202 S. College Ave. eatery, police discovered the time and an image of a person of interest.
From this image, a team of GPD officers that included Bunten, Det. Matt Huffman and officers Josh Smith and Luke Brown, developed Flynn as a person of interest.
When the search warrant was served Thursday evening, Bunten said officers found three articles they were searching for related to the case, as well as a small amount of cash matching the description of some of the stolen money.
Flynn was then placed under arrest for Level 5 felony burglary and booked in the Putnam County Jail at 7:34 p.m.
The case will be turned over to the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office for consideration of formal charges against Flynn.
