County Jail

Eleven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently

Sunday

• At 9:57 a.m. James Richard Lamb, 38, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail on a pair of local warrants.

• At 5:05 a.m. Leann Renee White, 26, Greencastle, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 8:25 p.m. William Isaac Withrow, 46, Plainfield, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

• At 5:12 a.m. Carl Wyatt Hicks, 20, Paragon, was booked in on a Morgan County warrant.

• At 3:49 a.m. Justin David Painter, 22, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 1:32 a.m. Cory Edward Smith, 33, Fillmore, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 1:16 a.m. Joshua Gordon Jarrett, 34, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

• At 12:55 a.m. Eric Carlton Jones, 47, Tullahoma, Tenn., was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

Friday

• At 8:21 p.m. Tyra Shaqueen Binder, 21, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for battery on law enforcement, criminal mischief, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

• At 6:12 p.m. Victoria Elizabeth Rutenberg, 40, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a court order.

• At 2:20 a.m. Jesus Exiquio Perez, 43, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 10:36 a.m. on Sunday, Billy T. Blackburn, 24, Poland, was northbound on State Road 243 about a half mile south of U.S. 231 in a 2007 Ford Focus.

Blackburn was rounding a curve and lost control on the wet road, hitting a guardrail. Blackburn told Deputy Brian Helmer he entered the turn slowly but still lost control.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:56 p.m. on Friday, Daniel J. Johnson, 17, Reelsville, was making a 90-degree turn at County Road 525 South and 500 West in a 1999 Dodge Ram. Johnson told Deputy Anthony Brown he was going too fast and drifted into the northbound lane.

Randall E. Robinson, 71, Sebring, Fla., was northbound on 500 West in a 2014 Dodge minivan when he saw Johnson enter his lane. He tried to move out of the way but could not avoid a collision.

Robinson’s vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:22 p.m. on Friday, Tracy L. Smith, 48, Bainbridge, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when she lost control for an unknown reason. The vehicle spun out of control and entered a ditch sideways.

The car sustained only minor damage and was driven from the scene.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 11:04 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, Anjuan N. Hughes, 43, Greencastle, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 475 East in a 2011 Mazda 3S when he hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Brown estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four recent dispatches:

•At 3:03 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 6437 N. U.S. 231 to assist Bainbridge Fire Department with a motor vehicle with injuries. Units arrived at the scene at 3:13 p.m., and helped clean debris and make sure the victim was safe.

They left the scene at 3:30 p.m.

•At 4:10 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a call for an strange odor at 922 N. Madison St. Units arrived at 4:13 a.m. but found no source for the odor on the premises.

They left the scene at 4:13 a.m.

•At 3:53 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 420 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:56 and found that the alarm was due to burnt food. The alarm was then reset.

They left the scene at 4:07 p.m.

•At 2:17 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 304 South St. for a smoke alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:23 a.m. and found that smoke detectors were faulty. They replaced the batteries in them after they could find no problem.

They left the scene at 2:38 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed six medical runs and had one disregard during this time.
