Wilfred D. Hurst

Wilfred D. Hurst, 92, Danville, Ind., died on July 23, 2018 at Life's Journey of Avon in Avon.

Born March 20, 1926 near Mt. Meridian, he was the son of Alton O. Hurst and Elizabeth Walton Hurst who preceded him in death.

He married Nina Goodman Hurst on Sept. 25, 1993, and she survives.

A graduate of Belle Union High School class of 1944, he was a farmer and retired from IBM.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

He was a life member of the Cloverdale American Legion and a life member of VFW Post 3284 of Roachdale where he served as quartermaster for 18 years.

Mr. Hurst was also a member of the Roachdale Christian Church.

Survivors include wife Nina; two sons, Stanley L. Hurst, Greencastle, and Stephen L. Hurst and companion Phyllis Hayman, Reelsville; stepson Vernon R. Saunders, Greencastle; and a step-daughter V. Sue Bright and husband Chris, Harrodsburg, Ky.; one granddaughter, Jayme L. Barber; one grandson, Jacob A. Saunders, Cloverdale; great-grandchildren Kevin L. Polster and Kaitlyn Barber; a brother ,Wendell A., Greencastle, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, sister Wanda and husband Jack Patterson, sister-in-law Norma Hurst, and two stepsons, Timothy and Terry Saunders.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at Servies and Morgan Funeral Home in Roachdale. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27 at New Providence Cemetery near Belle Union with military services.
