Golf cart crash injures Greencastle woman

A golf cart crash late Tuesday morning sent a Greencastle woman to an area hospital.

At around 11:30 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the crash near the intersection of County Road 675 West and 125 North in Madison Township.

Indiana State Police Master Trooper Troy Sunier discovered that a 15-year-old female from Arlington, Texas, was operating a golf cart northbound on 675 West and attempted a U-turn near 125 North. In doing so, the juvenile traveled off the east edge of the roadway and overturned the golf cart in a ditch area.

A passenger, 70-year-old Evelyn Yates of Greencastle, complained of neck, shoulder and arm pain and was transported to Hendricks Regional Health for treatment.

Assisting were ISP Trooper Colton Maynor, Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Putnam County Operation Life and Madison Township Fire and Rescue.

Elsewhere in the Putnamville ISP district, trooper had already responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 in Vigo County.

At 10:58 a.m., Master Trooper Polly Blackburn was patrolling in southern Vigo County when she came upon a two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 at State Road 246.

Preliminary investigation reveals 21-year-old Carl Melchert of Fairbanks, was operating his 2013 Chevy Cruze eastbound on SR 246, stopped for a stop sign at U.S. 41, then pulled into the path of a southbound 2007 Mitsubishi pickup driven by 64-year-old Marvin E. Dabelow of Terre Haute.

The Mitsubishi pickup struck the driver’s side of the Chevrolet.

Melchert was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital and treated and released for complaint of pain. Dabelow refused treatment at the scene.

Blackburn investigated the crash. Assisting were ISP Sgt. Kris Fitzgerald and ISP CVED Master Trooper Mark Overpeck, Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Linton Township Fire and Rescue, Praireton Fire andRescue and Trans Care EMS.
