Gordon LaVerne ‘Bud’ Monnett

Gordon LaVerne “Bud” Monnett, age 93, passed away on July 26, 2018.

Born March 20, 1925 in Greencastle, Indiana, he was the son of Clifford and Dorothy Monnett.

Bud enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1943 and served as a pilot in World War II and Korea. He retired in 1974 from the United States Air Force Reserve at the rank of major.

Bud worked for the United States Post Office, starting as a mail carrier in Greencastle in 1947 until he retired as a postal inspector in charge for the Pittsburgh/Philadelphia Division in 1980.

Survivors include his children, Timothy G. Monnett of Timber, Ore., Tina L. (Robert) Coleman of Twinsburg, Ohio, and Michael L. (Diane) Monnett of Peoria, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Megan L. (Mark) Hatala of Medina, Ohio; a great-grandaughter, Keely Ann Hatala; three sisters, Patricia Smith, Marcia Campbell and Janice Inman; one brother,  Keith Monnett; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Dorothy Monnett; his wife of 67 years, Alice Anna “Ann” Monnett; his brothers Bill, Don and Jerry Monnett, and his sister Mildred Edwards.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1. Graveside funeral and military services will immediately follow the viewing at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
