Local piano students will compete at Indiana State Fair

Three piano students of Cheryl Beck of Greencastle will compete in the Indiana State Fair Young Hoosier Pianist Competition in August.

Jacy Huffman will compete on Aug. 18 in the non-classical and jazz, rags and boogie categories within the junior division.

Allie Whitesell will compete on Aug. 12 in the classical category of the mid-teen division as well as on Aug. 19 in the ensemble category of the senior division with her sister, Ashley Whitesell.

Ashley Whitesell will also compete in the non-classical category of the senior division.

These students were among the more than 500 students ages 5-22 who participated in the preliminary rounds held at these locations: Carmel, Crawfordsville, Columbus, and West Lafayette. The final competition is held on the top floor of the Indiana Arts Building on the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The event is sponsored by Piano Solutions of Carmel.
