Victims identified in Friday double-fatal crash

Monday, August 27, 2018

A Texas couple has been identified as the victims of a Friday-morning crash on Interstate 70 that claimed both of their lives.

The victims of the crash are husband and wife Tommy L. Weeks, 58, and Charlene K. Weeks, 60, an over-the-road truck driving team, Putnam County Coroner David Brown announced Monday afternoon.

The couple had picked up a load at the FedEx facility at the Indianapolis Airport before heading west on I-70.

Forensic testing led by Dr. Roland Kohr has shown that Tommy Weeks was driving westbound at the 43.5-mile marker shortly after 5 a.m. when he succumbed to a medical issue.

Putnam County sheriff's deputies said that it appeared that the tractor-trailer, registered to a truck leasing company in Arkansas, was in the passing lane when it began to drift slowly into the median.

There were no skid marks at the scene, which is consistent with the pathologist's finding of a medical issue.

The truck then gradually climbed the side of a hill in the median before crashing into trees.

Charlene Weeks died on impact.

The truck later caught fire, destroying the semi tractor as well as catching a portion of the woods on fire.

Dental records were obtained from the couple's next-of-kin and were used to positively identify the victims.

Family members in Texas has been notified and are making arrangements to return the bodies to Texas for final arrangements.
