Tuesday, August 28, 2018

HOLLANDSBURG -- The Parke County Health Department is partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to host an Out of the Darkness Walk on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Raccoon Lake State Recreation Area (Cecil M Harden Lake).

The goal is to raise awareness about the need for suicide prevention and to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Registration for the event will begin at 10 a.m. with the walk starting at 11. It is a 2.8-mile non-competitive scenic walk on an ADA-compliant paved route.

There is no cost associated with the event. Gate fees will be waived for those who state they are there for the Out of the Darkness Walk.

Dogs are welcome as long as they are well-behaved and obey the six-foot leash law.

Persons may register online at afsp.org/ParkeCounty, or you may register the day of the walk. If you are unable to attend, you may also access the site to make a donation or form a virtual team.

Those with questions may contact Liddy Dowd-Wright or Sophia Stillwell at sanitarian@parkecounty-in.gov or parkehealth@parkecounty-in.gov or by calling 765-569-4071.
