Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 9:36 p.m. on Friday, Joni Young, 52, Reelsville, was northbound on Manhattan Road in a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Young was unable to see a big tree limb that was hanging from a tree on the east side of the road.

Deputy Daniel Birt said the limb was 6 to 8 inches in diameter and had broken away from the main fork of the tree. It was tangled in another tree that kept it from falling all the way to the ground.

Young said she came around a slight bend in the road and was unable to avoid the limb.

The vehicle suffered severe scratches to the hood, passenger side mirror, passenger side A-pillar and roof.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 3:48 p.m. on Friday, Zachary C. Gracey, 24, Brownsburg, was northbound on U.S. 231, approaching County Road 1200 South in a 2015 Ford F250.

Gracey told Deputy Brian Helmer a truck was stopped in the middle of the northbound lane. Gracey said the unidentified vehicle did not have a turn signal on but it appeared the driver was going to turn west.

Gracey said he could not avoid a collision, hitting the left rear of the other vehicle with his right front.

The impact caused the other vehicle to cross the center line toward southbound traffic.

Scott E. Miller, 40, Staunton, was southbound in a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a full-size camper trailer. Miller swerved to avoid the unidentified vehicle and lost control, causing the camper to roll over. The trailer hit a utility pole and a mailbox.

The pickup and camper came to rest in a field east of the road.

The unidentified truck fled the scene eastbound on 1200 South. The other two drivers indicated it was a blue truck within a flatbed, likely with minimal damage from the crash.

Gracey’s vehicle was towed, as was Miller’s camper.

Damage was estimated at $50,000-$100,000.
