Playhouse season to end with Neil Simon comedy 'Barefoot in the Park'

The 2018 "Season of Hits" at Putnam County Playhouse is coming to a close with a production of the Neil Simon comedy "Barefoot in the Park" to be presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-15 and again Sept. 19-22 at the Hazel Day Longden Theater off Round Barn Road in Greencastle.

Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at 653-5880. All tickets are $10 and all performances begin at 8 p.m. Regular box office hours are 5-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

"Barefoot in the Park" features Sarah Bond in the leading role of Corie Bratter, a free-spirited young newlywed. Paul, her husband of six days, is played by Drew A. Harris. The couple sets up housekeeping in a fifth-floor walk-up apartment in New York City in 1968.

Causing complications for the couple are Corie's mother, Mrs. Banks played by Tammy Hunter, and the upstairs neighbor, Mr. Velasco, played by Don Wilson. When Corie tries her hand at matchmaking, both couples end up in trouble.

In featured roles are Brian Cox as a helpful telephone man and Clarence Long as a long-suffering delivery man.

Jack Randall Earles is directing the comedy with Sandi Rossok as assistant director.

Set design is by Linda Gjesvold with sound and lighting design by Dustin Bond.

The production stage manager is Brandon Wunderlich, while the stage crew includes Devin Huff and Hadley McCoy. Anna Harris is running the light board and is serving as assistant production stage manager. Jim Green is running the sound.

The play is sponsored by Rossok & Co. Insurance, an agent for Goodville Mutual.

"Barefoot in the Park" was an early Broadway hit for the late playwright Neil Simon. Among his other shows that have been produced at Putnam County Playhouse are "The Odd Couple," "The Prisoner of Second Avenue" and "The Sunshine Boys."
