Eagle tennis rolls over Danville as WIC finals near

South Putnam continued rolling along in boys’ tennis on Monday evening, blanking Danville 5-0 by winning all five matches in straight sets.

“Everyone played really well,” coach Johnny Briones said. “We this evening, playing with a lot of confidence and being aggressive. It was a good way to start a busy week, playing Owen Valley tonight, Crawfordsville on Thursday and Owen Valley again on Saturday for the conference championship.”

Soccer

Cascade 3, Greencastle 2 (boys) — Greencastle could only net two goals in the second half for an attempted comeback against Cascade.

Both goals were scored on set pieces, one by Jacob Baker on an assist from Jakob Foss and the other by Hector Lezama, also on a Foss assist.

In other soccer:

Greencastle 1, Southmont 1 (boys) — The Tiger Cubs and Mounties played to a draw last week.

Hector Lezama scored in the first half with a simple pass in the back of the net.

“The boys had numerous of shots they simply could not get on target,” Greencastle coach J.D. Sims said. “This would cost them in the second half when Southmont scored from a corner.”
