County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 5:51 a.m. Sarah Jeanine Lewis, 33, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a court order.

Wednesday

• At 8:12 a.m. Nicholas Adam Brown, 25, Quincy, was housed at the jail on a court order.

Tuesday

• At 8:13 p.m. Teannah Samantha Harris, 23, Cloverdale, was booked in for criminal trespass, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetanine.

• At 8:08 p.m. Greggory William Harris, 27, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for criminal trespass, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 6:53 p.m. Michael DeWayne Grimes, 34, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 6:50 p.m. Daniel Scott Hayes, 61, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 3:03 p.m. Edwin Matthew Chase Crump, 34, London, Ky., was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 11:36 a.m. Jason David Grimes, 34, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for using private land without consent, criminal trespass, theft and two local warrants.

City Police

One arrest was reported Wednesday by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 3 p.m., Chandler Hyten, 22, Fillmore, was arrested near Shadowlawn Avenue and Robinwood Place on a pair of Putnam County warrants.

Officer Kyle Lee also arrested Hyten for possession of a lookalike substance.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Hyten had outstanding warrants for resisting law enforcement/possession of a synthetic drug and for possession of methamphetamine.

One property-damage accident was reported early Sunday on North Jackson Street.

• At 1:15 a.m., a one-vehicle accident was investigated by Capt. Charles Inman in the 300 block of North Jackson.

Wayne Baker, 21, Greencastle, was southbound in a 2002 Chevrolet truck, owned by passenger Levi Purdue, Greencastle, when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the northwest corner of the White Cleaners building, damaging the concrete foundation and a downspout and guttering.

Capt. Inman noted that Purdue reportedly urged the driver to accelerate to test out the vehicle’s new power train. When Baker accelerated, the truck broke traction with the wet pavement, Inman reported, causing him to lose control of the truck and it left the roadway.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

The case has been forwarded to the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office for review of possible charges, police officials said.

Two recent citations were issued by city officers.

• At 5:34 a.m. Wednesday, Jeremy Farris, 32, Brazil, was ticketed by Officer Luke Brown.

Stopped on South Street near Zinc Mill Road, Farris was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

• At 6:40 p.m. Sept. 6, Jennifer Bush, 47, Fillmore, was ticketed by Officer Brown.

Bush was stopped on Fillmore Road near State Road 240 for having an expired license plate (expired May 14, 2018).

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent dispatches:

•At 11:36 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 406 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:39 and determined that the alarm was activated due to cooking. The alarm was then reset.

GFD left at 11:40 a.m.

•At 10:13 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 208 E. Olive St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:17 and determined that the smoke detector was dirty. However, the alarm was then reset.

GFD left at 10:27 p.m.

•At 10:04 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Tap House 24 for an overheated motor in a furnace. Firefighters arrived at 10:05 and were able to contain the smoke in the basement.

GFD cleared the scene at 10:28 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed five medical assists during this time.
